My Milano
Where I go to for focaccia, flowers, tailoring and everything in between.
One of the questions I´m asked most often is for recommendations in Milano. I´ve shared my favourite restaurants and shops before, but this time I want to share my everyday favourites: the places I go for groceries, flowers for our home, a tailor I trust, or the spot I visit every single day. These are the places that have made this city feel like home to me, and I´m happy to share them with you.
People often ask me what an ordinary day looks like here. During weekdays I work out and work, but if I have time off the days I love most are made up of small rituals: the same faces, the same streets, the same little pleasures, repeated until they become home.
Gym & Breakfast
Virgin Active
Via del Vecchio Politecnico, 4
This is where most of my days begin. The club was recently renovated. It is very spacious and rarely crowded in the morning when I like to go, so training here always feels like a calm start to the day. After my workout I often stay for their breakfast, which is one of the best in Milano. My favourite is their sourdough toast with scrambled eggs, avocado and feta, a ginger and chili shot and a freshly made juice.
Bakeries
Panificio Lago Olga di Gimelli Renato
Piazza del Tricolore 4
My neighbourhood bakery and where I get my favourite focaccia. I stop by early in the morning, when it´s still warm from the oven, and it´s usually meant for a home-cooked dinner that evening. I´ve learned to always buy double what I need, because by the time dinner comes around, a good part of it has somehow disappeared.
Princi
Via Ponte Vetero 10
A Milanese institution with several locations across the city. Perfect for a quick coffee and pastry, or bread on the way home. They have the best Olive baguette I ever tasted, so full of olives there is almost no bread. They also have pizza slices and an amazing croissant swirl with raisins.
Tailoring & dry cleaning
La Vecchia Milan Dry Cleaners,
Via Ciovasso 1
Tailor and dry cleaner next to each other. I trust them with both my clothes and my husband's. There's something wonderfully old-fashioned about having a tailor you know and someone who knows exactly how you like things done.
Fruit & vegetables
Frutteto Ciovasso
Via Ciovasso 5
Right next door, in the same street, is the best vegetable shop in the city. It belongs to Roberto, who was one of the very first people I met when I moved to Milan. Every visit comes with a chat, a recommendation, and usually something I didn't plan to buy.
Butcher
L'Annunciata Macelleria
Via dell'Annunciata 10
A proper neighbourhood butcher, ideal for a Sunday dinner or whenever you want to cook something special. If I´m cooking dinner at home, I always go there. A tiny “hole in the wall”, for the best meat in Milano.
Flowers
The flower stand right next to the Armani Hotel
Via Croce Rossa
I can rarely walk past without bringing something home and his flowers is of superb quality as if they were just picked.
Korean skincare
Goyu Milano
Via Giuseppe Verdi 5
For authentic Korean skincare, and the best selection I have found in Milano. Where I go for the lightweight sunscreens and sheet masks. I love discovering new products here and even if i swear to my skin guru in Norway for my skincare I love to browse, buy sheet masks, bodylotions and hair care products.
Matcha
The Matcha Club Milano
Via Pontaccio 5
My favourite matcha in Milan. I always order the warm matcha latte with a dash of maple syrup. My small moment of calm in the middle of the day.
Candles for the home
Astier de Villatte
Via dell'Orso 1
A little piece of Paris in the heart of Brera, and one of my favourite shops in the city. This is where I buy all the candles for our home. Lighting every candle in the evening has been my favourite part of the day for as long as I can remember, and when I host dinners, candlelight is a non-negotiable way to set the mood. I'm always drawn to scents that remind me of a fireplace or soft musk, or something fresh and airy. A candle paired with a bouquet of fresh flowers is my go-to hostess gift
Marked
There are two outdoor food markets I love to go to. There is one in San Marco every Monday and Thursday and one very close to our home in Porta Venezia every Thursday morning. I go there to buy fresh fruit, cheese and flowers.
All in one place
If you want to buy all your food in one place you should go to Peck. They have the most amazing selection of Pasta, wine, cheese, meat, fish, fruits, vegetable and sweets. Expensive, but worth every penny.
Manicure and Pedicure
I have two favorite places, Korea Nails in Corso Concordia about 5 minutes walk from my house and Minstry of Nails in Via Largo Francesco Richini about 15 min walk from my house. They do Russian manicure and are the best in Milano in my opinion.
Lunch
Santa Lucia
Via San Pietro all'Orto 3
For a simple, authentic Italian lunch. Nothing too fancy, just good food done the way it has always been done. My husband and I's go-to place for lunch in Milano.
Dinner
Le Specialità
Via Pietro Calvi 29
When evening comes, I walk over to Le Specialità for my favourite pizza. It's the perfect ending to a Milanese day: relaxed, delicious, and close to home. Normally wearing jeans, flats and no make up.
What I've learned living here is that beauty is in the details: the baker who knows you, the butcher who sets aside the cut he knows you love, the walk you take simply because the light is lovely. That's what I hope Libelula brings to your days too, small pieces you wear every day until they become part of your story.
Ciao,
Camilla
